Yesterday I read an article by
Marlon Sanders.
It centered around the
Archimedes Principle regarding leverage. In particular what he refers to as TME - Time, Money, Energy that we all have and then more specifically utilizing other people's Time, Money and Energy as leverage for your business.
The article has caused me to look at my business (and I mean all aspects of that business from selling digital information to monthly programs with a residual referral component to bricks-and-mortar network marketing) from a different perpective, especially that everything is to do with
distribution. Also, sales aren't "Sales"; sales are
people (potenitally) benefiting from whatever product or service you are distributing.
I have seen comments in terms of the "best" affiliate arrangement to have - one tier or two tier in particular. One comment was that 1,000 second level affiliates did nothing. My question is whose responsibility is that? Ultimately the affiliate
but if these people are your distribution network then teaching those people to be affective distributors makes good sense.
People sign up as an affiliate because they see an opportunity to earn extra income and hopefully because they have either used your product or have a very good, honest regard for your product. Affiliate marketing requires certain skills. For the affiliate, self education is one way to acquire the knowledge that underlies those skills. However not everyone, and I suspect very few in terms of a percentage of overall people involved in affliate marketing, has the skill to educate themselves and then take action.
It is better to have 10 people who are effective who then find another ten that are taught to be effective rather than 1000 who do nothing.
Why is this a shift in perspective for me?
Because the focus is on
people being successful in a distribution network and not just seeing your affiliates / distributors (or newsletter list) as a total number and as "potential and actual sales". Sales figures are a measure or gauge that your distribution system is working. Greater numbers of distribution outlets (affiliates / distributors)
is important but so is providing the mechanisms for those affiliates (business partners) to be effective and achieve their own success.
