Well I was somewhat amused this week receive an email from “myself” requesting to leave this list and a follow up email from myself saying that I was sorry to see myself leaving my list!
Of course the first request had a virus attached.
I was less amused to find 293 emails all promoting various stocks and then the following day another few hundred.
Fortunately, none of these made it to my computer because...
I use filtering software so that I can read and delete mail on the server before I download it.
I have previously used and recommended a program that has not been available from that domain for a while so I have been on the lookout for alternatives to recommend.
There are two:
1. SpamCombat from
http://www.glocksoft.com/
2. Pop Tray from
http://www.poptray.org
Both are very effective and there is no charge for either.
I have trialled both and can recommend either. Pop Tray has a somewhat easier interface visually and SpamCombat is probably a little more powerful in that it can recognize fake HTML used by some spammers - a new trend.
Be careful with SpamCombat when running it the first few times as it will mark many messages as spam based on its rule set.
You will need to whitelist a lot of emails first AND it is worth the effort.
So pick one of these programs or use your ISP's webmail to check your mail before it comes even close to your computer.
