A reader asked me today what I thought the power was behind the Agora articles and sales letters.
I wrote a short report a while back that I think explains some of the power they have...
Wouldn't you rather Attract people into buying from you instead of pushing them into buying from you? I'm fairly certain your answer would be Yes!
And it's the same with your customers...
Their answer is Yes too. They would rather be Attracted into buying from you than pushed into buying from you. When you Attract them they want to spend their money with you.
So how do we Attract thousands of customers?
We Tell Instead Of Sell
Do you like to be sold? Do you like having hyped up sales letters pushed at you constantly? Doesn't it start to feel like some of them are literally begging or that they are desperate?
Do you like when someone is desperate to get something from you?
I doubt it. And other people are the same way. You are your customer. You, just like them, like to be educated into buying instead of pushed. We like to be informed instead of sold.
In a very real way, people buy US first. The product is secondary. When you excite them, educate them or inform them like a friend, you are Attracting them instead of pushing them. It's much easier to buy from a person that is Attracting you instead of Hard Selling you, talking down to you and spewing lies like this offer is going to end at midnight or some other such junk pitches.
Open up, be real and through your site TELL instead of SELL. Tell me something that will help me. Hey I need help. I don't know anything about all this Internet stuff. I'm needing someone to be a friend and guide me and all I'm getting is stuff pushed down my throat. I'm confused and it doesn't look like anybody is really trying to help.
Mike McGroarty has his own way of doing just this. Check out Mike's site and see a success at work. People ARE buying Mike's books and he's making a great living at it. Mike's site is very little on Selling and very heavy on telling, showing, educating.
(Update: Mike's site has totally changed since I wrote this. Would be interesting to know if it increased or decreased response)
This site is a success without being one bit fancy. It's actually very homely looking. But people are buying because they end up trusting Mike. He takes a conversational tone. To people new to the net he is like a light in a dark tunnel. They gravitate right to him. He Attracts them into buying from him.
Before I end this article I would like to say that I think the statement below should be put on a plaque and hung over our computers...
You Are Your Customer
That statement has great power. We should see it every day. We should ponder it often. We should let it mold us until our power to influence others is an automatic reflex instead of hard labor.
Build a site YOU would buy from. Don't build what you think “they” want. Their desires are not mysterious or different. They want what you want. They like to be treated exactly like you do. Because, You Are Your Customer.
